Sabriel’s latest single “Love Again” projects listeners into that out-of-body, other-worldly feeling of falling into a new relationship. Caught in a current so seductive and disorienting that the mind can only try its best to reckon with the heart, Sabriel reimagines this “re-entry” into romantic love as a magical, celestial journey.
Accompanying her pulsating, shimmering production, Sabriel’s voice coolly asserts her ethereal ingenuity. The artist’s stunning, reverberating runs elicit drama and hypnosis, reminiscent of Erykah Badu and Amy Winehouse’s iconic, captivating vocal power. Regarding her inspirations, Sabriel tells us, “I don’t purposely go for a certain sound, but I [hope to] give people the same yummy chills and emotional clarity that I get from my favorite artists.”
“Love Again” starts utterly soaked in euphoria, undercut by elements of doubt and confusion; the singer’s persona knows that she’s in love and can’t get enough, yet isn’t completely sure she’s “doing the right thing.” Sabriel has shared, “I’ve done a lot of self-work during […] the pandemic, with a huge focus on past and future relationships. I used to have a tendency to jump in quickly, ignoring any and all red flags. But moving forward, I refuse to lose myself in another person. So I’m carefully watching every step.” Contrasting her seductive, whimsical sound, these lyrics communicate hesitancy, hyper-self-awareness, and a desire to clarify the details of this new love affair; as though to keep herself from diving in head over heels without first coming to full understanding. Nevertheless, the “falling” is clearly well underway, and it makes finding love again sound absolutely enchanting.
Sabriel (pronounced shä brē el) is a Las Vegas based singer, songwriter, and producer. She single-handedly wrote, produced, and recorded “Love Again” in the private comfort of her makeshift bedroom-closet studio. A self-proclaimed introvert, the experience of creating from home has allowed Sabriel's artistic self the proper room to flourish, to explore new ideas and her true path. “Love Again” was inspired by an online-course surrounding healing and relationships, whose female-centered discussions helped Sabriel open up to new love, self-discovery, and a more profound faith in her life-choices.
